Not long ago, MGM Corporation in Las Vegas announced that they would start charging for parking at all of their properties beginning June 2016, with locals exempt until early 2017.
At the time, we offered some suggestions for free parking on the Strip (see here). Although some of these options are still good, the Wynn, the Encore, the Cosmopolitan, and Caesars properties have now joined MGM in charging for parking and valet services.
So, what do we do with our car when we decide to visit the Strip? Shrink it like the Jetsons did? Fear not, here we come with some more reasonable options:
On the Strip
Of all the properties that formerly offered complimentary parking, only three remain: the Palazzo, the Venetian and Treasure Island. However, these are not the only options. Below are our recommendations:
Its location on the northern end of the Strip makes the Stratosphere a bit far from the rest of the action, but it is free. Plus, the Deuce and the Strip Downtown Express both make stops there, so it's still a pretty good option.
The Fashion Show Mall
This is the best possible option, if you ask me. There are several parking areas, so you can choose where to park depending on where you’re going. You'll be close to the Wynn and the Encore on one side; the Palazzo and the Venetian on the other; and right next door to Treasure Island. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better free parking option!
This parking lot is conveniently located on the Strip, right across from the Excalibur and the New York-New York. It only has two floors, so it's likely to fill up quickly thanks to the new parking fees at surrounding properties. The good news is they offer complimentary valet service! If your plan is to visit the southern side of the Strip, you can’t beat this location.
Miracle Mile Shops
Although parking is not technically on the Strip, the Miracle Mile Shops are, and the mall offers free self-park and valet services. Pretty convenient, don’t you think?
Off the Strip
Although not exactly on the Strip, this seven-floor garage on Tropicana Avenue is very convenient in terms of location and plentiful parking. Elevators take you directly to the casino floor, and from there you can cross over to MGM or continue towards the Tropicana. It's work the short walk.
The RIO and Station Casinos Properties
Do you know what’s awesome? Most off-Strip properties have transportation to and from the Strip, and all – yes ALL – of them are free! Just be sure to tip the driver, and you're good as gold. Participating properties include the Rio, the Palms and all other Station Casinos! So why not park at any of these hotels and let somebody else juggle Strip traffic? Win-win, in my opinion.
The Westgate Monorail Station
This is a practical option, although it kind of defeats the purpose of not paying for parking. Here’s the deal: you can park for free at this property (the former Las Vegas Hilton) and hop on the Monorail to go wherever you want on the Strip. You just have pay for the monorail ticket first, but it's still quite a convenient option.
We hope we've helped with your parking issues and doubts. Do you know of any other parking options? Mind sharing? Let us know. The way things are going, it won't be long before we're posting another one of these!
